The 1892 Crimson Tide football team was the first football team to play for the University of Alabama. Interest in the game was spurred by student William G. Little, a Livingston native who learned to play football at the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire.
Playing their first year of varsity football in Tuscaloosa, Alabama earned a 2-2 record under coach E. B. Beaumont, who did not return.
Schedule
- November 11: Alabama's first game was a 56-0 defeat of Birmingham High School at Lakeview Park in Birmingham.
- November 12: Alabama lost 4-5 to the Birmingham Athletic Club the following day.
- December 10: In the rematch, Alabama shut out the Athletic Club 14-0.
- February 22, 1893: In the 1st Iron Bowl, the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama at Auburn defeated Alabama by a score of 32-22.
