Patch of the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service. The shoulder patch replaced an earlier circular design based on the Seal of Birmingham. The purpose of the redesign was to better illustrate the department's services. Captain Rick Brasfield and apparatus operator Tyrone Fornest began collaborating in May 1995 to generate hundreds of designs before presenting this final concept to Chief Oscar Brennan in July of that year. The patches were ordered in February 1996 and issued to department personnel in May of that year. The patch was updated with script writing for "Birmingham" in 2015.
