The Angwin Service Funeral Company is a full-service funeral home with locations at Avenue I and 35th Street in Ensley and at 600 9th Avenue in Bessemer.
The Echols and Angwin Funeral Home was founded in 1898 by John Angwin and Dennis Echols at 17th Street and Avenue F in Ensley. The partners created what has been called the first "funeral parlor" in the United States when they constructed a heavily-draped chamber alongside their undertakers' shop expressly for the visitations.
In 1924, after Echols' death, Angwin built a larger and more complete funeral home complete with a chapel for religious services. That building is now the Perryman Serenity Funeral Chapel.
