The Avenues of South Hoover, formerly Barrington on the Green, is a 342-unit apartment complex on 28 acres off Lorna Road in Hoover, just north of the Cahaba River. Although the complex is south of Chace Lake Villas, Summer Place Parkway, the road leading to the complex, meets Lorna Road north of the villas.
The complex, constructed in 1996, consists of 15 apartment buildings with a mix of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments, plus the office and garages. In 2012 amenities included a swimming pool, fitness center, basketball court, and lighted tennis court. By 2021 a pet park, and outdoor kitchen had been added, along with other upgrades.
In February 2003, Double Ridge Ventures of Georgia sold the property to Steven D. Bell & Co. of Greensboro, North Carolina for $19.4 million. Bell also acquired the adjacent Chace Lake Villas around the same time. In April 2012, DRA Advisors of New York sold the complex to Somerset Partners of Memphis for $28.5 million. White Eagle Property Group of Monsey, New York purchased the apartment community in June 2021 for $40.5 million.
