Viridian is a $12 million, 20-home gated community being developed on a 10-acre parcel off Tyler Road in Vestavia Hills by the Wedgworth Companies. The project is being marketed as a "green" community, with three shared open spaces, EnergyKey Level II-certified efficient homes, preservation of 32% of forested area of the site, and the use of sustainable and recycled building products. The houses are expected to sell in the $600,000s.
Among the recycled materials to be used are bricks, stones, logs, flooring and doors from the existing Peter Ingle residence on the site, a house which began its life as a log cabin on Mount Pinson in 1819. Alagasco is partnering in the development, which will demonstrate the use of energy-efficient natural gas appliances.
