Alabama Gas Corporation (Alagasco), headquartered in Birmingham, is the largest natural gas utility in north and central Alabama. Until 2014 it was one of the two operating units of Energen Corporation, a diversified energy company also headquartered in Birmingham. That year it was sold to the Laclede Group of St Louis, Missouri for $1.6 billion.
Alagasco provides energy to 422,000 homes and businesses. Its history dates back more than 150 years. It has operating divisions in Anniston, Birmingham, Gadsden, Montgomery, Opelika, Selma, and Tuscaloosa.
