Ashfaq Taufique is the current president of the Birmingham Islamic Society.
He has been president of BIS since 1989. Originally from Karachi, Pakistan he moved to the United States in 1975 to attend the University of Texas at Arlington. There he received a degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduating he went to work as a mechanical engineer. The company he worked for in Augusta, Georgia relocated him to Birmingham in 1989.
