The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME) is a national denomination founded in 1870 by African American members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Prior to 1954 the denomination was known as the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church.
The CME is the sponsoring denomination of Miles College. The denomination's regional division that includes Alabama is the Fifth Episcopal District. It is headquartered in Birmingham.
