The Hotel Yamakita was part of a proposed Yamakita Country Club to be built in 1927 in Shelby Springs between Columbiana and Calera in Shelby County. The resort-type project was begun by the Yamakita Land and Development Company, an outgrowth of the Nelson Realty Company, who contracted architects Turner & McPherson to prepare designs for the hotel.
