- 1963: Dwight and Floyd Armstrong attended the first integrated class at Graymont Elementary School. President Kennedy sent the National Guard to escort black students into West End High School and Ramsay High School.
- 1907: Pitcher Harry Coveleski made his major league debut with the Philadelphia Phillies.
