East Avondale is a small neighborhood in the Woodlawn community of eastern Birmingham. It lies south of Division Avenue and 1st Avenue South, between the Forest Park-South Avondale and Crestwood North neighborhoods. A southern "leg" encloses the Taylor Hill community south of 5th Avenue South along 47th Place South.
The neighborhood includes the east side of 41st Street South between 1st and 3rd Avenue South, and encloses the Continental Gin complex and the CMC Steel plant. In 1980 the neighborhood had 1,140 residents, of whom 824 (72%) were African American.
The East Avondale Neighborhood Association is presided over by Doris Jones. It meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at New Bethel Baptist Church on 47th Street South. The East Avondale Hill Community Garden, established by Rosie Thrash with the support of the Community Garden Coalition for Birmingham, is located at 300 47th Street South near New Bethel Baptist.
