Uncredited engraved illustration of the Hawes riot, published in Harper's Weekly on December 22, 1888 (link).
The tower at rear left is 1st Presbyterian Church. The Jefferson County Jail is building with the armed guards perched on the roof. The large building under scaffolding in the right foreground is the Jefferson County Courthouse, being constructed on the site of the former courthouse. The indistinct the building in the left foreground was a fruit stand, later the site of the Title Building.
