Bush Hills is a neighborhood in Birmingham's Five Points West community and includes the subdivision of Owenton, home of Birmingham-Southern College.
The neighborhood is traversed by Graymont Avenue/Pike Road and Bush Boulevard. It is separated from the Thomas and Ensley neighborhoods by I-20/59 on the north and abuts the College Hills and Graymont neighborhoods across Arkadelphia Road to the east; Rising-West Princeton and Fairview across 3rd Avenue West and 20th Place West to the south; and Ensley Highlands across Avenue Y to the west.
Bush Hills is named for Thomas Greene Bush, president of the Highland Land Company, which purchased and subdivided most of the property on which the suburb was developed.
The neighborhood is represented in Birmingham City Council District 8. Students in the neighborhood attend Bush Hills Academy or Minor Elementary School and Parker or Jackson-Olin High Schools. Alma Dennis Park is located on Avenue Z in the neighborhood's western edge.
The Bush Hills Neighborhood Association meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Bush Hills Academy on 16th Street West.
