Metropolitan CME Church (or, more formally, Metropolitan Christian Methodist Episcopal Church) is located at 1600 Avenue K in Ensley in a building originally constructed for St Joseph's Catholic Church in 1913.
Metropolitan was organized in 1900 and its earlier 1918 building is located 1733 18th Street. It moved to its present building in 1967. Its former building houses Christ Temple AFM Church of God.
Because of its role in the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights while located at the earlier building, Metropolitan was recognized as a "movement church" by the Birmingham Historical Society.
