- 2006: Terrence West, girl's basketball coach at Woodlawn High was murdered in Ensley. His killer remains at large.
- 1984: Greg Paiml, former Hoover High, Alabama Crimson Tide and current professional baseball player, was born.
- 1950: The new Birmingham City Hall was dedicated at a cornerstone-laying ceremony.
- 1948 Jazz musician Ray Reach was born in Birmingham.
- 1947: Colonial Stores introduced its familiar rooster logo. Colonial had several grocery stores in the Birmingham area in the 1950s.
- 1936: Banker Wallace Malone was born in Dothan.
