Girls Rock Birmingham is a week-long non-profit music education and empowerment program for girls ages 9 to 16. It was founded in 2014 as a local affiliate of the international "Girls Rock" organization by Lindsey Shante and Shelly Ann Edge. Through creative workshops, participants learn skills and build self-esteem. The program's songwriting and performance focus is expanded with sessions on self-image, yoga, self-defense, design, marketing and screen-printing.
Most of the camp's sessions are led by volunteers. Financial aid is offered to participants from lower-income households and all experience levels are welcome. Camp sessions are held at WorkPlay.
