- March 22: Charles Sellers (or Charles Silas) was shot to death during a "small sized race war" triggered by Marshal Glenn Totherow's attempt to arrest Henry Johnson on the evening of "the first pay day since the establishment of saloons in the town." Johnson was injured by a gunshot wound to his arm. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham for fear that he would be broken out and lynched if kept in Brookside's jail.
- March 22: John McKinzie (or Jake McKenzie) was shot to death during the same fight.
