Fourth Avenue Baptist Church (Wahouma)

Fourth Avenue Baptist Church was a Southern Baptist congregation located at 7220 Fourth Avenue North in Wahouma. It was initially organized as the Baptist Temple on July 2, 1951 with Allen Wilkes as pastor. It was renamed Fourth Avenue in September 1952 and admitted to the Birmingham Baptist Association the next month Its first building was erected on this site in 1952. Its later modernist church building was begun in 1961 and designed by Christian and Blake.
On March 3, 1999 the congregation voted to sell its building to Mt. Mariah Baptist Church, which was located in Woodlawn. When that church moved into the Fourth Avenue building in May of that year, it changed its name to East Lake Full Gospel Baptist Church.
