2010 Birmingham homicides
This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2010. It includes homicide cases occuring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.
3 homicides have been reported in the city as of February 7, putting Birmingham on pace for 28 in 2010. Based on the 2008 census estimate of 228,196 population, that represents 12.3 homicides per 100,000 population for the year. Birmingham had 72 homicides in 2009, 88 in 2008, and a record of 141 in 1992. At this time in 2009 there had been 10 homicides.
Birmingham is averaging 2.3 homicides per month, or one every 13 days. There was 1 incident in January and 2 so far in February. The longest stretch without a homicide was the 20 days between January 1 and 21. Two deaths occurred on Sundays and 1 on a Wednesday.
Of the 3 reported homicides, suspects have been identified in no cases, apprehended in none, charged in none and convicted in none.
At least 1 of the 2 reported homicides was a shooting. Robbery appeared to be the motive in 1 case. 1 incident took place on a street, 1 in a home and 1 at an apartment complex. 2 victims were males and 1 was female.

- January 20: Antonio Smith, 30, died at UAB Hospital gunshot wounds suffered in an apparent robbery at his home on December 20, 2009. He lived at 825 18th Place Southwest in Southwest Birmingham.1. (report)
- February 7: Rachel Lee Blair, 26, was found dead in an apartment at the Forest Ridge Apartments at 660 Valley Crest Drive. The cause of death was not released and no arrest has been made. (report)
- February 7: Steve Hilson, 25, was found shot to death on the 1800 block of Princeton Court. (report)
Notes
- Although Smith was shot in 2009, his January 20, 2010 death became the year's first homicide investigation.
