Channing Tatum

Channing Matthew Tatum (born April 26, 1980 in Cullman) is a fashion model and actor, best known for portraying "Duke" in the 2009 film G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Though born in Cullman, Tatum's family moved to rural Mississippi when he was six years old and later relocated to Tampa, Florida. He played football, soccer and baseball, ran track and practiced karate and kung fu in grade school. He attended Gaither High School, but transferred and graduated from Tampa Catholic High School. He turned down a football scholarship to Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia, instead working odd jobs, including a stint at a strip club.

Tatum began professional modeling in Miami after being approached by a talent scout. He modeled Armani and Abercrombie & Fitch and began doing television commercials. His first film appearance was in the music video for Ricky Martin's "She Bangs". In 2004 he was cast for a small role in "CSI: Miami", then got a larger role as a basketball player in the 2005 film Coach Carter. He played opposite Amanda Bynes in She's the Man (2006). His next role was as a rebellious dancer in Step Up, also released in 2006. His first serious role was as Antonio, a street tough in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, which premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. He was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor for that role.

Beginning in 2008 Tatum was awarded several roles as soldiers, playing Steve Shriver in Stop-Loss, Duke in G. I. Joe, and John Tyree in Dear John. He also portrayed gangster Pretty Boy Floyd in Michael Mann's Public Enemies. During filming of The Eagle of the Ninth in Scotland, Tatum was badly burned by scalding water poured into his wetsuit while playing a scene in a river.

Tatum married actress Jenna Dewan, whom he met on the set of Step Up in July 2009.
