Lester Smith
Lester Smith, Jr. is the senior financial advisor to Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, having accepted the newly-created role in 2021. He began working for the city as CFO and director of the Finance Department in February 2019.
Smith earned a Bachelor of Science from the Auburn University School of Business in 1991. He has been a Certified Public Account by the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy and is a Chartered Global Management Accountant by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Before joining the City of Birmingham in 2019, Smith worked at the YMCA of Greater Birmingham starting in 2013, first as a Controller then as a Chief Financial Officer. Before that, he was an Accounting Department Manager at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC from 2003 to 2013. Smith served as a Controller for Mouat starting in 2000. He also served as an Audit Manager both for Berk Patterson, PC, CPA (from 1994-2000) and for Lovoy, Summerville & Company (from 1991-1994).
Smith was nominated as a finalist for the 2021 BBJ CFO Awards.
