The 2024-2025 Birmingham budget includes the operating budget for the City of Birmingham for the fiscal year July 1, 2024June 30, 2025 as well as a capital projects budget.

Mayor Randall Woodfin hosted a town hall meeting in March 2024 to present details of the budgeting process and city's commitments to the public prior to submitting the budget proposal. That same month, however, the city experienced a network outage caused by a ransomware attack. The disruption prevented the Finance Department from working on the budget. As a result, in May Woodfin proposed to submit a $554 million budget identical to the 2024 Birmingham budget, with the expectation that it would be amended over the course of the year as needed.

City Council approval

Since the Mayor-Council Act was modified in 2016, the City Council must vote on the budget as it is presented to them, with any proposed changes approved by the Mayor beforehand.
