David Mitchell

David Mitchell is a former aerospace executive and the current Mayor of Columbiana.

Mitchell graduated from Banks High School. He earned a bachelor of science in aviation management from the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University and a master of arts in business management from Webster University in Webster Groves, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft maintenance officer and fighter pilot.

From 2010 to 2011 Mitchell served as CEO of McLane Advanced Technologies in Temple, Texas. In 2012 he accepted a position as managing director for a division of defense contractor Leonardo DRS, working from Rockville, Maryland and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He left that post after 1 year to take a job as director of manufacturing operations for the Alsalam Aircraft Company in Riyadh. He resumed residing in Columbiana in 2011 and retired in 2020.

He also teaches as an adjunct professor of international management at the University of Montevallo.

Mitchell, and his wife Kathy, have three children and five grandchildren.
