  1. October 28: Virgil Thomas, was shot at least 30 times and six other were wounded by guards employed by the Alabama Fuel & Iron Co. as a group of union activists approached a company mine at Acmar. A grand jury was empaneled and company owner Charles DeBardeleben and general manager Fred Bell were implicated. Bell and eight others were indicted for murder, but no convictions were obtained at trial.
