McCrory Building Company
The McCrory Building Company was a general contracting company founded in 1985 by John McCrory. Its first offices were on 7th Avenue South in Birmingham.
The company expanded in 2007, opening an office in Destin, Florida and building a new office building on Rocky Ridge Lane near I-459 in Hoover. The company reported revenues of $77.5 million in 2008 and had more than 120 employees, making it the 10th largest general contractor in the region, according to the Birmingham Business Journal.
After a prolonged financial strain from the the loss of anticipated contracts for Gulf Coast condominiums and the renovation of Leer Tower in Birmingham, the firm finally lost the trust of its bonding companies. McCrory Building Company closed in March 2010, defaulting on its contracts to complete construction of Pleasant Grove High School, Glenn K-8 School and two other school additions.
