Questions

  • Toraine Norris has Spivey's first store opening in Tuscaloosa in 1947, which makes some sense because he was a student at Alabama at the time. However, Raabe's article details his problems with a building on Tuscaloosa Avenue which prompted him to buy the theater building right across the street. I've gone with the more detailed account. There's no indication of why he spent the summer of 1938 checking books out from the Sylacauga library. I assume he was staying with family for the summer. I'd like to know more about the expansion and contraction of the chain (especially for the Spivey's Hobby, Toys and Gifts article) and about his children. Also, the 'Just a Chat' say's he's been a Homewood resident for 47 years, which contradicts Raabe, who says he bought a house next door to the theater in West End just before buying the theater itself (and always considered that location to be his 'home base'). So, any help straightening all this out would be great. --Dystopos 09:44, 2 December 2006 (PST)
