Jennings B. "Ears" Whitworth was a head football coach at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) and the University of Alabama. From 1950 to 1954, he coached at Oklahoma A&M, and compiled a 22-27-1 record. From 1955 to 1957, he coached at Alabama, where he posted a 4-24-2 record. This unfortunately included a school record 14-game losing streak from 1955 to 1956. Following successive 2-7-1 seasons in 1956 and 1957, Whitworth was fired and replaced by Bear Bryant.
