The Birmingham Steel was a short-lived professional basketball team which played two games representing Birmingham in the Continental Basketball League (CBL).

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based league was organized in 2009 by Dennis Truax, a former director of operations for the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). Birmingham was announced in March 2010 as the 5th of 5 charter teams which would play a 16-game schedule against teams in Savannah and Marietta, Georgia and Wilmington and Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Richard Ashmon owned the Birmingham franchise, and also served as head coach and general manager. Tryouts for the team and its dance squad were held on March 27 at Jackson-Olin High School. Play was scheduled to begin at the end of April with a championship in June.
