The 2012 Iron Bowl took place on Saturday November 24, 2012 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Auburn was shut out by the Alabama Crimson Tide 49-0. It was the 77th contest in the series between Alabama and Auburn. The game was Alabama coach Nick Saban's sixth Iron Bowl (4-2), and Auburn coach Gene Chizik's fouth (1-3), and final game as Auburn's head coach.

Bama quarterback A.J. McCarron threw four touchdown passes and running back Eddie Lacy rushed for 131 yards as the Tide clinched the SEC West championship. Auburn freshman quarterback Jonathan Wallace completed 5 of 14 passes with two interceptions against the nation's top scoring defense. Wallace was only the third freshman quarterback to start an Iron Bowl for the Tigers and first since Gabe Gross in 1998.

The final score was the most lopsided victory in 64 years, and the second-worst behind the 1948 Iron Bowl in which Alabama won 55-0. Coach Chizik's team finished the 2012 season 3-9 overall, and 0-8 in the SEC. Chizik was fired as coach the next day.
