1994: Watterson Parkway opened to traffic in Trussville.
1991: "Photographs of Wales 1971-1978" by Rowland Scherman went on exhibit at Joe Bar as part of that year's Salute to the United Kingdom.
1972: Three Dog Night headlined a massive concert at Legion Field.
1965: Joan Baez headlined a benefit concert for the United Negro College Fund at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa.
1964: The Tuscaloosa County Courthouse was officially dedicated in downtown Tuscaloosa.
1963: "A Call for Unity", an open letter to Birmingham's African American citizens, was published in the Birmingham News.
1963: Martin Luther King Jr was arrested for "parading without a permit" during a peaceful demonstration in support of civil rights for African Americans. While imprisoned he responded to "A Call for Unity" with his Letter from Birmingham Jail.
1938: Tuscaloosa's Bama Theatre opened with a screening of "Bringing Up Baby".
1899: The Slayton & Mauldin saloon opened in the Davidson Building on 19th Street North
1887: The first lots in the new city of Bessemer were sold.
1882: Sloss Furnace No. 1 was blown in.
