1973: The downtown section of Morris Avenue between 21st and 24th Streets became the first site in Birmingham added to the National Register of Historic Places.
1969: Jefferson, Blount, St Clair, Walker, and Shelby Counties joined the Regional Planning Commission.
1968: Baseball player Todd Jones was born in Georgia.
1966: Basketball player Stan Kimbrough was born.
1954: Radio announcer Joe Rumore opened Rumore's Record Rack on 2nd Avenue North.
1949: 16th Street Baptist Church bombing victim Carole Robertson was born in Smithfield.
1943: 1943 Birmingham Barons John Conway & Charles Aleno each had 3 at-bats in the 7th inning in a game against the New Orleans Pelicans, setting a team record.
1922: Alabama's first licensed radio station, WSY-AM, went on the air.
1908: The 1908 Albertville tornado killed 15 and injured 150 in Walker, Jefferson, Blount, Marshall and Dekalb Counties.
