2008: Former Governor Don Siegelman was released on appeal after serving almost nine months in federal prison.
2007: A proposed non-discrimination resolution was voted down in the Birmingham City Council.
2006: Southland Entertainment officials announced that Visionland would be re-named Alabama Adventure and $100 million of new rides and other facilities were on the drawing board.
2005: 10,000 attended a special Easter service hosted by Gardendale First Baptist Church at the BJCC.
1994: A Palm Sunday tornado injured 53 people and damaged businesses along U. S. Highway 31 in Shelby County.
1976: Up With People performed at the Wright Fine Arts Center at Samford University to benefit the Guatemalan Relief Fund.
1934: The Elyton Civic Club was organized.
1904: Bethel Baptist Church was organized in Collegeville.
1900: Birmingham Police Department officers George Kirkley and J. W. Adams were the city's first to be killed in the line of duty.

1875: Brown & Hood mercantile in Arkadelphia burned to the ground.
1865: All of the columns of Wilson's Raiders rejoined at Jasper, burning Jasper Methodist Church, the Walker County Courthouse and the Jasper Masonic Lodge.

1964: Radio personality Bubba Bussey was born.

2016: Mother Angelica died at the Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville.
2009: Tennis player Roberta Alison Baumgardner died.
2007: Basketball coach James Perryman died.
1959: Former Pratt City Mayor Joseph Lacey died.
1900: Birmingham Police Department officers George Kirkley and J. W. Adams were killed in a shootout following a robbery of the Standard Oil office. They were the department's first to lose their lives in the line of duty.
