Joel Dixon
Joel Dixon is the principal of Calera High School.
Dixon earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in English from UAB. He taught English at McAdory High School for ten years before moving to Shelby County Schools. He also earned an administrative certification from the University of Montevallo in 2008 and an education specialist degree in instructional leadership in 2013.
Dixon served as assistant principal at Calera High School from 2008 to 2012, then served as principal of Vincent Middle High School from 2012 to 2014. After the resignation of Calera High School principal Richard Bishop was approved on July 24, 2014, the Shelby County Board of Education approved Joel Dixon as his replacement in a special meeting on July 30.
Dixon and his wife, Amy, live in Columbiana with their two children, Emily and Will.
