The 2008 municipal elections will be held in 46 Jefferson and Shelby County cities and towns on August 26, 2008. As of the July 15 qualification date, over 500 candidates are seeking office.
Jefferson County
- Adamsville: Current mayor Terry Loggins did not run for re-election. Candidates are Stephen Adams, Johnny Click, Terrel Guy, and Pamela Cairns Palmer.
- Center Point:

- Fairfield:
- Fultondale:
- Gardendale: Mayor Kenny Clemmons is stepping down after 12 years in office. Jonathan Dunagan, Dennis Gamble, Othell Phillips, Oscar Mann and Matthew Wright are running.
- Homewood:
- Hoover: Mayor Tony Petelos is unopposed for his second term.
- Hueytown:
- Irondale: Former mayor David Krider is running against incumbent Tommy Joe Alexander and current city councilors Joan Ratchford and John Schoen.
- Kimberly: Six-term Mayor Sam Maze is not seeking re-election. Candidates are Ralph Lindsey and Brian Pharris.
- Morris:
- Mountain Brook: Mayor Terry Oden is running for his fourth term.
- Pinson:
- Pleasant Grove:
Shelby County
- Alabaster:
- Calera: Mayor Roy George is giving up his seat after serving nine terms. Candidates to replace him are Jon Graham, Hank Lewis, Bobby Joe Phillips and Joey Wideman, with George endorsing Phillips for the position.

- Montevallo: Current Mayor Sharon Anderson is not seeking re-election. Former three-term Alabaster mayor Roger Wheeler is running against Ben McCrory and Steven Sears.
- Pelham: Bobby Hayes is not running for re-election, having served as mayor since 19984. Candidates are Jim Martin, Don Murphy, Jim Phillips, Tim Spinosi and Gary Waters. Hayes endorsed former fire chief Waters.
