10th Avenue North (or Tenth Avenue North, formerly just 10th Avenue, and partly renamed Richard Arrington Jr Boulevard North) is an east-west street running through Smithfield and north of downtown Birmingham and continuing in sections through the east side of the city.
10th Avenue North begins at Center Street in College Hills and runs eastward, crossing into Smithfield at 1st Street North and then running behind Parker High School where it is interrupted at 5th Street North and the I-65 corridor. Four more blocks of 10th Avenue North run through Fountain Heights, tucked into the curve of the I-65 North to I-59/20 West ramp at Malfunction Junction.
10th Avenue North resumes at 16th Street North, north of I-59/20 and continues eastward to 19th Street North, where it is interrupted by the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in the Druid Hills neighborhood. East of the BJCC, the street continues as Richard Arrington Jr Boulevard North, under the I-59/20 interchange with the Elton B. Stephens Expressway. It continues through the Norwood, East Birmingham and Kingston neighborhoods, then crossing into Woodlawn at 47th Street North.
After crossing Messer Airport Highway, Richard Arrington Boulevard bends northward, passing below I-20 behind Woodlawn High School and continues from there as 3rd Avenue North.
A fragment of 10th Avenue North connects to 86th Street North in Zion City, north of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.
