Royal Restaurant was a seafood, steak and oyster house located at 1600 2nd Avenue North (the corner of 16th Street and 2nd Avenue North). The restaurant was owned by Robert Papan, a native of Yugoslavia and former Maitre D' at Top of the Six in New York. Papan died on March 7, 1975 in a car crash on the northbound side of the Red Mountain Expressway when struck head-on by a wrong-way driver traveling at nearly 100 miles per hour. After his death, his wife Ernestine continued to operate the restaurant.
