1991: St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church dedicated the first building at its current facility.
1973: Rosalette Petty of Hawai'i was crowned Miss Black Teenage World at the inaugural pageant in Birmingham.
1949: The Birmingham Business League, Birmingham Emancipation Association and the NAACP co-sponsored a mass meeting to protest the growing list of racially motivated bombings in the city.
1945: The Birmingham Age-Herald resumed publication after a five-week printer's strike.
1887: Educator A. H. Parker arrived in Birmingham.
1883: Woodward Furnace No. 1 was blown in.
1805: Hosea Holcombe was ordained as a Baptist minister in Padgett's Creek, South Carolina.
